To be fair, anti-indigenous sentiment was established long before confederation, and it's not uncommon to hear jealousy about the benefits recieved from the Indian Act even though that's how John A MacDonald structured this country in 1876 after screwing them over.

I live in Montana and we just had a multiday celebration in our rural shithole celebrating some Hindu holiday. People complained to the city council about it, but they were arrested on the spot.
