It wasn't really my thing but my big brother loved it. I played maybe 20 hours of the LotR mod online but didn't even bother with the base game. Out of all the top down CRPG's I liked Fallout, Arcanum and the Avernum series the best.

I liked Neverwinter Nights II better but it was really fucking glitchy. I only played it because I like Obsidian games. I just can’t really embrace the whole D&D mechanics. KOTOR doesn’t bother me though.

games don't be playing like they used to. there's something like bg3 that comes out once a decade but I really think everything was just objectively better when we were kids. I can still play those same games and have a blast.

Diablo 2, yes that game was great but I think that is a hack and slash game more than a CRPG. RA2 was fucking hype from the moment you installed it and the backstory plays out while it's copying the files. I also loved StarCraft. Black and White was fun but I didn't own it, just played it for a couple of hours at my stepbrothers house.
One game I also loved was Little Big Adventure 2, really the greatest action-adventure game ever made for the PC.
