Music is supposed to be about a real emotional and musical connection between the artist and the listener. But K-pop is mostly obsessed with how the artists look. Sure, visuals and performance can add something, but in K-pop the focus has completely flipped. Kpop stands don’t really talk about the music, just the appearances. Buying albums just to collect photo cards of the members feels bizarre.
For listeners who actually value music as an emotional experience, an artist’s looks or personal life like dating or marriage, aren’t a big deal, as long as it’s not something extreme.
K-pop, though, has stripped the music out and turned into a mix of Korea’s obsession with appearances, vanity, materialism, and a conformist group mentality. A pretty rotten culture , isn't it.
