Because when you have 2 alphabets officially used in your language you naturally choose the more useful one for most time. Especially that it gives them mutual intelligibility with all of ex-yu area while most Croats or Bosnians can't read Cyrillic.

It's the same like when you know 2 languages on the same level, you will tend to use the more useful one more often

That's a meme. There is well-adjusted version of Latin used in Slavic languages as well as there is a well-adjusted version of Greek for them (and that is named...Cyrillic). So in the end it's up to you which adaptation of a foreign script you use. But it's ridiculous to think that a Greek-based script must be naturally better for Slav tongues than a Latin-based one

Serbian doesn't distinguish between hard and soft consonants. That's why Serbian texts written in Latin look relatively tolerable, but try to transliterate something like вoзвpaщeниe or блaгoдeнcтвyющий and you'll get crap lime vozvrashcheniye and blagodenstvuyushchiy.

They're literally the same type of writing system. Just add a glyph or two or some diacritics like you did with the Greek alphabet. Vietnamese and Turkish have no problems, and they're not even in the same language family.
>East Slavic texts written in Latin are absolutely fucked.
Because it's being transliterated into the orthography of another language rather than a mere adaptation of the Latin writing system. Cyrillic isn't an improvement over something like Arabizi.

Also people are way too autistic about muh phonemic writing system. English proves it literally doesn't matter.

It does, you have č and ć, dž and dj.
And you can also borrow ś or ń from Polish. Or you can also use i/j for ь. There is not any inherent problem with Latin in Slavic languages, its just all matter of customary use. If you were raised with Latin and it was taught at school to you, you would think it's the best alphabet for Russian, same like Poles believe that szcz is the best solution for Polish

That's what I found on Wikipedia
>Unlike most other Slavic languages such as Russian, there is no palatalized versus non-palatalized (hard–soft) contrast for most consonants
In Russian literally each consonant has the hard variant and the soft variant. That's why the Serbian for "ministers " is миниcтpи, but in Russian it's миниcтpЫ because you use и after soft consonants and Ы after hard consonants. East Slavic languages have a much more, more complicated phonology than South Slavic and West Slavic ones, that's why Cyrillic fits our languages and Latin doesn't. You need to invent half an alphabet again for unnecessary reasons.

yeah, i had similar thoughts about that
Poles live in their own bubble and we know nothing about Russian popculture, even though it's objectively better than ours solely because of its size (there is statistically more good content) but well, lack of linguistic community doesn't allow us to know about it so we are just not interested and also managed to make ourselves believe that "if we don't consume Russian culture then it means it must be shit" which objectively doesn't need to be true but who cares, we believe that and that gives us a sense of superiority.

but I have no doubt about it - if we spoke Russian at least to the degree we speak English here, we would consume Russian popculture like crazy and in this sense would be probably also more exposed to Russian political influence.

Really, you DON'T want to learn Russian, it's like a drug, at first you only see the positive side but the negative consequences come later to destroy you and you cannot get rid of that easily.

also, I noticed that Ukrainian and Belarussian nationalists do a lot of things not for themselves, not out of their genuine internal need, but only to see how Russians will react to this. Like they will speak Russian to each other when they're alone but when a Russian guy appears nearby they suddenly switch to Belarussian/Ukrainian. Or Ukrainians will praise Bandera "because Russians hate it". Not to mention that once they come to Poland they just casually start speaking Russian because Poles cannot distinguish what language they exactly speak and there is no pressure not to use Russian.

I have no doubt, the first day after the peace is signed, a large part, if not most of Ukrainians will return to speaking Russian and consuming Russian content like nothing ever happened.

Well, by the sheer size of Russian culture obviously they will have more gems. Also Russian state pumps a lot of money into their media and popculture because they use it as a political tool so Russian stuff is indeed often better technically than ours, you just see more money was spent on that. Before 2022 they showed some Russian soap operas here my mum watched and just from quick look at them you could see a big technical difference between them and similar Polish operas, they just seemed much more professional than ours (similarly with Turkish or Korean soap operas because both states also use their culture as propaganda&influence tools).
