My mechanic told me that French cars are absolutely painful to work on, in addition to the fact they tend to have issues more often than any other car brand.
He suggests me to buy Japanese instead, for their awesome reliability.

Does this happen iyc too?

Yep they are.
Peugeot has the habit of putting their oil filter right above the timing/cam belt. So any leakage with oil will result on it dripping on your belt and it getting destroyed faster.

he's absolutely right, can't think of any other brand that did such a monumental fuck up as PSA did with their 1.2 pureshit engines

No that doesent happen in my country

because no one in Germany buys french cars in the first place. Or italian cars, or british cars.

GERMAN CARS
JAPANESE CARS
AMERICANS CARS

in this row

if you buy anything else it´s literally your own problem Jean Renault de Peugeot della Incel

Just buy a Toyota if you are poor or a Benz if you are rich like every normal person on planet earth

dacias aren't great but for their price you can't complain, ig they're part of renault
many taxi drivers here drive dacia stepways, usually that's a good indicator that the car isn't half bad

doesnt suffer from national stereotypes; i.e german cars are autistically over-engineered or italian cars are handmade passion projects with no quality control, french cars are typically quite neutral and flavourless
modest designs and equipment levels + powertrain options meaning they cater for the people that just want a point A>B car which is a market that german (and swedish) car makers have told to fuck off

unironically the french car industry will have better chances of competing with the incoming chinese import apocalypse than the germans

In real life I've never seen a motor vehicle of any kind that wasn't made in the US, Japan, S Korea, Germany, Sweden or the UK--at least as far as labels go, As for why it is that the French are superb at nuclear power engineering, but embarrassing at auto design and manufacturing, that I can't explain.

True enough, but I've always felt there was something more to it. Geographically, France is considerably bigger and flatter and more spread out than Germany, never mind Japan, so you'd think that car culture (whatever one means by that) would be more of a thing there.

Sadly, only if you buy JDM. In SEA, "Japanese" cars are made in Thailand, Indonesia and even Malaysia. The quality, though still ok, is a crapshoot. At least the spareparts are easy to find and fairly cheap.
