see the thing is that the only brazilians who can afford to come to europe are the wealthy ones that would never use public transportation in brazil. they do however end up using it once in europe because of how convenient it is and due to the fact that they're here on holidays and don't have a car with them. but the thing about public transport, and it doesn't matter what continent you're in, is that there's gonna be poor people using it, and some of them won't be wearing deodorant and will be stinking up the place with their sweaty armpits, especially in buses (how poor is she that she's riding on the fucking bus?). that's why she's surprised that there's poor smelly people on the bus, because she's never been on a bus before in brazil. can you imagine how bad buses must smell in brazil? americans experience the same thing because the white americans who come to europe never go to cramped public places in the us, the only places they go to that have a lot of people in a tight space are the office and the strip mall sit down restaurant, and in both of those places they're surrounded by people of their social class who usually put some effort into how they look and smell, because if you have a job or can afford to go to the restaurant you'll probably be wearing deodorant. but even as a white american you probably experienced at least one public space with poor people: school. and chances are you had to sit next to a poor smelly person on a hot summer day at least once. the thing is that for a lot of americans that's the only time they were confronted by smelly poor people, the rest of the time they're either in their house, in their car or at the office, it's the same for most white europeans, but when you go to europe you don't visit the suburbs, you don't rent a car so you can sit in traffic at 8 in the morning like most white americans and europeans (and the top 1% of brazilians) do most of the year.
