We never claimed Cuba was our territory during the Cuban missile crisis though. We knew it was a sovereign state. If we had wanted it, we would have taken it.

Ukraine was nowhere near NATO membership (they didn't even apply ffs) neither in 2014 nor 2022, and there are no nukes, long range rocket systems or permanent military bases set up in member states east of Germany as per the 1997 Russia-NATO Founding Act, which western governents for whatever reason still uphold, while NATO and Russia both pretend it doesn't exist because it would hurt their own propaganda
