Austrians barely cared about us.
Germany tried to germanize us and while it managed to do that with most Silesians before 19th century, in the age of nationalism it was already impossible and despite heavy germanization attempts and huge public funds spent on that purpose, the number of Polish-speakers in Germany was consistently growing and the German-Polish ethnic border was stable or even changed in favor of Polish speakers

Kraków might be cute but it's still just a village comparing to Prague. Well, Kraków even feels like a rural town comparing to Brno. I don't think there are many 19th century houses taller than 3-4 floors in Kraków, it gives you that provincial vibe.

Prague looks as an imperial capital despite not even being such (at least for most of the time), it's hard to believe how rich its inhabitants must have been.
Anonymous Poland No.214071033 >>214071092 >>214071869

also Prague has superb maintenance, every single house is renovated and freshly painted, no graffiti, no plaster falling off the wall, Vienna-tier level if not even better
Kraków on the other hand is largely run down outside the market square. Budapest has the same problem tho. You can just feel that Poland (and Hungary) were much poorer than Czechia in the last 100 years.

i get that but still Prague is really impressive, so is basically every Czech city or even small town. Their 50k towns look like 300k cities in Poland when it comes to how tall the houses are.

btw, we have a town Bielsko-Biała which was called "little Vienna" in the AH times. It's somehow off the radar but in many aspects it feels more "urban" than Kraków. Interesting (and kinda expected) fact is that it was a German-majority city, the only one in Austrian Silesia/Galicia (it is only one city now, in AH times there were two separate cities, Bielsko was in Silesia, Biała in Galicia).

Well, Lviv was the capital of Galicia itself, Kraków wasn't even a regional capital, just a regular town without any special administrative role.
Imo Lviv is more beautiful than Kraków but sadly it is even in a worse state than Kraków. But I don't even blame Ukrainians for that because Poles have much more money yet can't keep their cities look good either.

Nah I've been to both.
Prague is comparable to Austrian influenced Croatian towns but upscaled and with more and bigger old buildings. And, of course, it has hq of many big companies unlike Zagreb. It's definitely not on par with Vienna or Ljubljana in terms of order and cleanliness. Besides the metro its infrastructure is probably even worse than those you'd find in Slovenia and Croatia.
Meanwhile Krakow is like Zagreb but clean and European (not Bosnian).
