The spaniarda arrived, everyone and theur mothers rebelled to the mexica and they tore down Tenochtitlan and genocided the Mexica.
Mexico today has very little of aztec, it's basically just folklore, while people like the tlaxcalans (who were not mexica and eagerly embraced christianity after being subjected to flower wars and human sacrifices for centuries) played an actual role in the establishing of Mexico
