i actually kind of like how absurdly simple the design is, it looks exactly like the way a child draws a skyline out of just rectangles and squares.
the design i hate the most is the one to the right of it, the second tallest in the picture. my city has a bunch of buildings in a similar style going up and they feel sovlless.

Because architect schools and agencies are infiltrated by modernists who have made and want to keep making the world an ugly place in order to provoke people (this means they're successful).
They think that beauty is something vague and esoteric, "its in the eye of the beholder" and thus there's nothing you can say that will change their mind because even if every single other human being would think their designs are ugly, they would argue it's not because there will always be one person who thinks it's beautiful.
If I had a gun with 2 bullets and I had to choose between a politician and a modernist architect, I would shoot the politician twice and use my own hands to kill the architect slowly and painfully.

You're wrong. (Modernist) architects will tell developers it's impossible to build beautiful buildings, they have to build concrete lest they go over budget or whatever other excuse.
Even so, it's not more expensive to build in classical styles (beautiful), on the contrary it is often cheaper when you factor in the higher prices that people are willing to pay to live in beautiful buildings.
The problem is more so that modernists CANNOT build beautifully because that would require actual skill and some talent and they have neither.

I'm not advocating for that, I'm advocating for architects to go back to a classical framework.
This is low income housing in a suburb in Paris, built recently.
There are many examples like this across Europe and the world.
It's modernism that's on its way out because it's a fad, and nobody will mourn its passing.

Its not about material choices, it's about the design, shape and most importantly - scale, although yes concrete and glass siding is ugly.
The problem with modernist design is that they don't adhere to any framework or template, in fact the lack of a template is what usually makes modernism what it is. They like to add an odd number of or different sized windows etc, there's no rhyme or reason to it and that's why they don't look appealing to anyone other than other modernists.
Huge structures should be reserved for monuments or landmarks like the Eiffel Tower or cathedrals or other public spaces like the US Congress building.
Having 100 story skyscrapers is unnecessary and only serves to make a city feel inhospitable for humans.
3-4 stories is all you need as long as you have a competent urban planner.

This concept was from like 2017, a fashion company called Bestseller was going to build this thing in a town called Brande. But then it was canceled when covid hit, or so they claim

I don't buy that they were ever serious about building this in a town of 7000 people. I think it was just some marketing gimmick, and they only picked the town of Brande because it kinda sounds like "brand"
