It's air conditioning that's not room based. It's more efficient and not loud. It's like central heating, instead of a wood stove.
But if Europeans aren't even adopting room based air conditioning(what's referred to as air conditioning), then it's going to be another 5 generations to get centralized air conditioning.

You're retarded then. It's more efficient than having each room with their own air conditioning unit, it's also way quieter, because each room doesn't have a running air conditioning unit. You can put the central air unit, somewhere you never hear it.

it is not more efficient because the ducts are very rarely as properly isolated as a proper line. it is also a lot less likely to maintain the exact temperatures across the rooms as a split system where you can adjust the room temperature individually if you want or even turn it off if it is not needed. in-door noise levels are also higher on central air because guess what, the air movement across the ducts make more noise then an isolated line to the unit and they also need more power to pump the air through the entire house. central ac is also significantly older than regular ac as central ac has existed even with ice cubes and tunnels underneath large buildings back then.

I've found they can lower the temp to ~10 below ambient. so if you're house is 90 degrees yeah they won't help much but I think they're mainly intended to supplement existing shitty ac or for windows that can't accommodate a normal window mount unit.

If you're expecting them to flash freeze the room then yeah they suck, but mine has managed to keep my room at a comfortable 25 degrees during a 33 degree heat wave, so I would give it a passing grade.

yeah living space is generally smaller but even large homes use mini-split. 99% of the world outside usa (and maybe canada) uses split. even in really large homes. the biggest bottleneck is that it is more complicated to service and very few hvac technicians know how to service it in north america
