It's been a complete shit-tip looting its own history since the Bronze Age Collapse. So overpopulation, general environmental collapse proceeding a decline in Nile fertility, it still hasn't solved the problem of a civilisation running along two banks and they've spent thousands of years with military governments more interested in looting than improving the situation. Egypt survived but was broken.

I'm not shitting you here. Egypt fell into terminal decline with mercenaries seizing the government and they looted the old monuments and even stole previous dynasties landmarks to venerate themselves like today. The world ended in the 12th century BC.
