In the grand scheme yeah. Culture changes always, and it typically doesn't regress except for a few niche moments in history. The old is usually only ever revisted much later in time. It's why you look at politicized labels over time and how their meanings shift. Hell even in 50 years time they hardly mean the same thing.

History us obviously ciclycal, cultures and societies go through periods of expansion (normally imperial) and periods of contraction (normally socialist)
You could say that once a society reachs its expansive threshold it begins a modernity where it "equalizes" and then comes a post-modernity where it reverts to reactionary competition schemes between ideas, simulacras, beliefs, commodities, etc.

Kumbaya was never real, progressives were simply accelerating the surge of a postmodernity
