My parents were abusive and their actions caused my emotional development to stun. This has lead to an obsession of lost past. I was desperately trying to recover a childhood/teenage/YAage I never had. But it just only grew the gap between me and my peers.

I can blame a number of factors, including a weird early social development thanks to my only sister being a literal retard, but what really screwed me over was finishing college and having to find a job at the trough of the Great Recession. I spent years un/underemployed, moved back home, lost all the friends I made in school, and basically became a NEET. Now I've worked my way up to dead-end wageslavery but I still hate myself and have a knee-jerk distrust of other people.

Also this movie is totally unrealistic. He needs to be a lot more cynical and resigned.
