He's a man who baaically refused to do anything more then the bare minimum while talking about it like he moved mountains. Had the opportunity to get a high school education and more but was so egotistical he thought he didn't need a HSD, this was back in the mid/late 80s so in retrospect this decision was even more retarded. Fell for super obvious scams and frauds despite mom+friends telling him it was a retarded idea. Chipped down my mother until she basically just gave up. Now spends his days watching YouTube AI slop about Jesus and Elon Musk from dawn to dusk while having no retirement funds or any sources of income.

My siblings and I are all educated and well off so he basically feels he actually accomplished something as a parent. According to family and the people who knew my dad's parents, he fell very far from the tree. My mom outright loved them which I guess meant all those red flags weren't as easy to spot when they commanded that much of a presence in a room and his siblings were pretty swell.

but he lived the dream in a lot of ways. worked as a carpenter in long-island. turned 20 and said fuck it, ill move to where its sunny, and just straight up moved to 1970s florida with his friends and no savings. he worked as a carpenter there, and when he arrived ate mcdonalds mcchickens and used the beach showers.

there he met my mom who was a young 20 year old fitness instructor. i have no idea but i guess she was dating multiple people (a rich guy in the florida keys and a jamaican?) but my dad knocked her up, and they basically decided that meant they had to get married.

i was the third son, and for most of my life i can't remember them ever hugging or kissing or being nice to each other. but my dad really loved his children, and enjoyed taking us to the beach and going on vacations and just spending time with us. he said that was the happiest time of his life.

he was getting into fixing up houses, which was great in the quickly developing florida 1990s Jupiter area, and had this nice house that was poised to probably double his investment, maybe hundreds of thousands of dollars. but, a recession struck exactly around the time of him trying to sell it. my mom told him to hold on, but he chose to cut losses and sell it at a break even price.

he then gave up on houses and went into drafting for an engineering company. he was promoted to a team manager, but hated it, because he just wanted to draw pictures. but the money was stable, so he worked at that position for 27 years.

after he took that position i basically never saw him again. he worked full time and at one point moved to a different state. he divorced my mom for 'spending too much money', then got really into fitness and into great shape at 60.

and then he married a big breasted gambler lady that bossed him around and made him fried chicken every day and fucked him a lot. within a few years he needed a pacemaker. now i barely hear from him anymore.

Abusive fuck with anger issues. Still did somewhat his father duty, but loved to beat the shit out of me, my brothers and my mother if we did the slightest thing wrong. We run away when I was 9, ghosted him for while, then me and my younger brother got in contact with him again. Now things are somewhat cool again, but he loves to act like the victim, who did nothing wrong. My mother still refuses the contact, but me and my brother visit him to help him with shit and to drink some shots. Now he's slowly dying, because all the years of breathing dirt from welding and other shit have catched up with him. I'm prepared that he propably won't survive to the next year. He has an appointment on wednesday and if they keep him at the hospital, then it's basically over for him. He did atleast prepare everything for when he dies, but it's going to be some pretty shitty weeks, when he's gone.

Not sure if I gonna really miss him, when he's gone. The later years he acted pretty correct, but I just can't forgive him for what he has done, when I was little.

My dad is awesome. Taught me a lot, is a great example and unironically a heroic figure to me and it has been that way since I was a kid. Hes just a Chad. Always has been. He’s the type to pull over and change your tire or lend money to someone and not care if he gets it back. He's just generally a funny and cool person to be around. We haven’t always gotten along, and of course as ethnic white trash we have fistfought on the front lawn before (I deserved it and he beat my ass for stealing his truck and I lived in the woods for like 3 days) . I’ll probably make my first son after him. Love that nigga. I would certainly be in jail or addicted to drugs without him.

I hope all you guys ITT with shitty dads can heal your wounds and eventually be a better man to a kid one day.
