in sweden we have "offentlighetsprincipen". basically, everything is a public record, including people's home address, income, pets, vehicles, criminal record. you can find basically anything. if you have protected identity (about 30k people in sweden have it) you can't get this info. i believe she has it because of she had abusive parents so the state granted this to her after she had moved to a foster home or something

yes, it's a rigorous process. you can't just get it because you want to. this is why so many have been doxed in our general. you can read more here / ask chatgpt: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Principle_of_public_access_to_official_records

Sweden is sometimes not a very smart country. Offentlighetsprincipen maybe (but lets be honest it didn't really ever make sense.....) made sense pre-internet. But it doesn't make any sense today. Sweden has some good law and some really stupid and sick laws. For example: Did you know that cp was legal in Sweden in the 70s? Sick and disgusting. But thankfully laws change and I'm sure that offentlighetsprincipen will be very(!) nerfed in the future. Offentlighetsprincipen is under attack in Sweden because of GDPR. And also because of all the crime due to the kravlösa mass immigration and failed integration (but that's a different topic).

But, BIG NEWS!! A vägledande court case recently gave a big blow to offentlighetsprincipen:
https://rattspraxis.etjanst.domstol.se/sok/publicering/8648c5ce-ae20-41ef-ab04-85cd5b0797f0

You can use google translate to read it if you want, but I will explain it to you:

Basically, there are two main laws about this in Sweden:
1) 21 kap. 7 § in Offentlighets- och sekretesslag (2009:400) (OSL), which basically says: "you have to follow GDPR when it comes to personuppgifter".

This makes sense, EU förordningar are lex superior in Sweden because Sweden is a member of the EU.

2) 1 kap. 7 § in Lag (2018:218) med kompletterande bestämmelser till EU:s dataskyddsförordning (dataskyddslagen), which basically says: "achtually you don't have to follow the GDPR because in sveeijrjej we have le offentlighetsprincipen and le freedom of speech (unless it's speech we don't like, e.g. HMF)".

Obviously dataskyddslagen 1 kap. 7 § is pure bullshit and that's what HD in Sweden basically said: "look, dataskyddslagen 1 kap. 7 § is bullshit because it violates GDPR which is lex superior so go fuck yourself dataskyddslagen 1 kap. 7 § and yes OSL 21 kap. 7 § is correct.

This is a BIG SWEDISH WIN. And I predict that the wins will keep coming.

HMF is the Swedish "hate crime law". It's pure bullshit and actually violates the likabehandlingsprincipen is a key foundation of Swedish law and a bunch of other stuff like TF and YGL ("foundational laws"). However, it's still pushed by political activists and sickos.

It's actually regulated in Brottsbalk (1962:700) 16 kap. 8 §.

You can read it here:
https://www.riksdagen.se/sv/dokument-och-lagar/dokument/svensk-forfattningssamling/brottsbalk-1962700_sfs-1962-700/

But it basically says that "hate speech against everyone who is not an ethnic Swede or white/European" is illegal. It more or less explicit says this in the förarbeterna. The most recent and relevant of which is prop. 2023/24:93. You can read about it here, starting on page 37.
https://data.riksdagen.se/fil/336AD2B1-FF56-4FDD-8EA8-F57717201408

The förarbeterna are used by Swedish courts to interpret the laws. So they are important.

Juridical details may vary, but it's a good principle that public records are actually public.
It kills corruption and leads to much more transparent government.
It's one of the things that makes the nordic model outperform the rest of the world.

Finland has similar laws but your privacy issues sound alien to me.
I guess we are more internet-savvy. Both users and legislators.

Mentally ill schizos get dopamine and ego boosts from attention whoring. In generals with 20 something people they leak bits of their personal lives over times and sooner or later they inevitably get doxed because they can't stop attention whoring and all they need to do is one mistake for all the pieces to click

I would say that it's unique, no country is this stupid when it comes to privacy. But it's thankfully changing thanks to the EU and because of the general direction of Sweden. It will take some time though.

In civil law the written law text actually matters, at least in theory. Unlike in common law.
Anonymous Finland No.214154893 [Report] >>214154945
>>214154397
Exactly, and it's easy to opt out. Unlike in Sweden, apparently.

Just like anyone can get your phone number if you haven't opted to make it private.
But anyone with a modicum of common sense sets any personal phone number to private. The rest usually switch theirs to private once they get tired of telemarketers.
Anonymous Sweden No.214154914 [Report] >>214155051
>>214154628
I'm sure there are instances of that, but that's not how it is most of the time. You also have to keep in mind that different domare will interpret förarbeterna (or similar) different and sometimes åklagarna and försvarsadvokaterna will do a good job or bad job. I would still say that Sweden, Finland, and the rest of the Western world are mostly rättsstater although that's not always the case of course.

Again, I partly agree with what you say but the real world is more nuanced than the picture you paint.

Yes, you can't opt out in Sweden unless you have skyddad identitet. But that is thankfully (slowly) changing) due to GDPR.
