From an comparatively grim area right on the other side of the border in Northern Pennsylvania.
Yes, it's incredibly grim up there. The cities are punch way above their weight on violent crime and depression. Cities like Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Albany, and Binghamton are all complete shit dumps full of sadness and snow. There is no hope or future in upstate New York at all. Grim.
Finger Lakes are nice though.

Not true at all. New York state's oldest buildings are from the 1650s. That's nearly 400 years of heritage. Also, NYC has some of the world's greatest buildings, in the form of its early skyscrapers such as the Flatiron and Empire State.

New York is okay. Vermont was a lot nicer until pretty recently. Pennsylvania better. A lot of New York Cityans prefer to vacation in Pennsylvania and move to Pennsylvania over upstate when they leave New York City.

They had a mass shooting a few years ago, and apparently it's a terrible state to practice in if you're a physician because of high malpractice suits. Pity, the nature looks nice.
