They're gonna swap to English immediately. Montreal is a bilingual city. If you want true immersion you're gonna have to go deep into Quebec. Try Trois Rivieres.

Well Montreal like I said is a bilingual city, a lot of people there speak English so if they hear you speaking broken French they're gonna swap to English as they're not gonna want to hear that. But if you go to smaller towns or city within that region you'll have better luck with speaking French as people in those places don't speak English so they'd be forced to deal with your broken French.
