It's a class thing. The most common way for people to become exposed to leftism today is through liberal arts education at college, which is a luxury that only the wealthy can afford. Democrat is the party of upper middle class and rich whites and the various minorities who they offer welfare to, Republican is the party of mostly poor whites with a few richfags that hate taxes and various Christian fundamentalists. The rich whites don't really interact with poor brown people even though they support the same party.
