just checked that area on google earth, the pakistani side is a lot more inhabited than the indian side, and it seems like the terrain has something to do with it (more forgiving on the pak side)
the thing is, if you move just 3 or 4 km east, you find the exact same thing happening in india, inhabited deforested mountains

every western flag should support Pakistan because it's a much more reliable political partner. India is roleplaying a global superpower too much and it often tries that silly muscleflexing which makes them suspicious from the western point of view. I would suspect they could even ally with China against the west if they thought it could benefit them short-term. Also the political system in India is so complicated with many different interest groups so it's hard to determine who you need to talk to to get things done. In Pakistan it's easy, it's always the Chief of the Armed Forces
