REMINDER; "Southern" U.S culture is the natural, real culture of the United States. If you listen to old recordings of Pennsylvanians/New Jerseyeans from the turn of the century they had Southern twangs. If you read about New York slang in the 1820s-40s before the massive wave of immigrants, it was all words/phrases that are associated mainly with the South today. Outside of New England, due to different settlement patterns, all U.S culture used to basically just be what we call "Southern today".
