Because unlike Sudan or any other shit going on right now, this conflict has actual global significance. In particular this conflict decides the future of all nuclear nonproliferation efforts. If Russia is allowed to win it we won't have 9 nuclear powers anymore. We will have ~90 instead.

The reason russia is poor is because america (and arguably the UK+France) decided to antagonize them and block their integration into the west with recurrent sanctions, color revolutions, lobbying, ostracisation from the international community and so forth ever since Russia left communism

America never wanted Russia to integrate let alone become a good law competitor for influence in the region.
