People really don't seem to understand that the Normans of 1066 were not the Normans of 911. The so-called Normans of 1066 were called Norman from the name of their duchy, which itself was named after the Normans of 911 by the Franks (Norman was NOT a term used by the Norman to refer to themselves). The two groups are completely distinct.
The Vikings of 911 didn't "become Frankish" as so many people like to imagine. They disappeared into the population. Rather, the Normans of 1066 were always Frankish, but they then became "Norman".
The name is the same, but we are talking about two completely different groups only connected by history and a name.

Im not so sure about this, i have heard said that they still had viking longships which would point to viking somekind of viking-culture perseverance. And i would bet that many or a fair bit of the elite were of norse lineage, they were after all the ruling force that got the province to rule
