There needs to be some grand event the world is captivated by where China clearly outranks the US. In a non-spectacular fashion, they have already far outpaced us due to embracing an authoritarian mixed-market situation, as their education systems, massive relatively well educated population, and population size overall have afforded them extreme advantages in a number of fields. But there needs to be some event that sparks the switch from the American-dominated global zeitgeist to a Chinese one. Perhaps they are the first to have AI labor, perhaps they grow richer than the US, perhaps America suffers from crises due to populist-era America (we are living through now) that shows clear stagnation. Whatever it is, I doubt it will be the current AI wave.
