Why did East Germany unify with the rest of Germany but East Moldova not reunify with the rest of Moldova after the Soviet Union fell

depends how you measure it but at least in certain areas it was definitely true
I read a book about Moldova and they quoted a Moldovan guy who lived in a village close to the Prut river (Moldovan-Romanian border) and he said that in the 1980s as a young boy he would often go to the river in the evening and there was complete darkness on the Romanian side because they had permanent blackouts, meanwhile in Moldova electricity was almost for free and they wouldn't even bother to turn the light off when leaving their home. He was very happy that he lived in the USSR instead of Romania.

I'm surprised no one has given the actual answer yet:
Because the Soviet/Russian army never left Transnistria since they wanted to keep their influence in Moldova.
It's hard to unify with Romania and join the EU/NATO when part of your territory is occupied by the Russian army.

our govt in WW2 sent our gold to the UK, US and Canada and while the UK deducted a certain amount of this gold, supposedly to pay for the cost of maintaining and equipping the Polish Armed Forces in the UK, they generally returned everything back to Poland - which was actually a funny thing, because they already returned that to the communist government in Warsaw and our government in exile was extremely angry about that.

Western Germany will be a third world country in a few decades anyway. And there'll just be a brain drain to the East. Hopefully the federal regime will just collapse, so they don't force the East to take in undesirables too.

There is only a German part, the Polish town is a separate city with a different name. And obviously I mean the German part. It seems to me like when Berlin gets too expensive, a lot of people might seek cheaper alternative in Frankfurt thanks to good railway connection with Berlin.

Because the AfD actually represents the common people, while the bloc parties just represent those people that participate in the circlejerk that is this regime's intellect-extinguishing academic system.

the richest part of the moldovan ssr was in transnistria because the USSR populated it with russians and only built industry there
moldova was part of the soviet union, eastern germany wasnt
took about two seconds after the ussr fell apart for moscow to tell the russian soldiers in transnistria to start a war to maintain a foothold in moldova and put pressure on its new government
after that came decades of russian hybrid warfare against moldova to influence its policy
