Many factors:
1. The UK Thatcherite government had been dismantling the Royal Navy, particularly naval aviation and carriers because lol nukes.
2. Thatcherites were also openly trying ti force the Falklanders to accede to Argentina. The Falklands were too expensive to subsidise and defend.
3. The Argie Junta were facing local unrest and needed a foreign boogeyman to raise patriotism
4. The Argies believed that the US will side with them or at least remain neutral.
5. The Argies believed that the world will side with them.
