why try to reach nirvana when exterminating the human race is doable and will help everyone? we're already on track for that and not changing anything all we have to do is keep polluting. Serious question btw.

idk, i think its about free will. if i take the philosophy serious, sometimes it seems like nirvanna is nuking the earth and making sure no bacteria is left to evolve into beings with a nervous system. but i suppose desire for non-existence is equally as ignorant as desire for existence

I can understand that, but even if the desire for non existence is another desire like that, if at the end the result is still no desire, that doesn't really seem to different from the buddhist path.
