It’s more that the digital euro will be managed by the European central bank, and it will replace non-European payment processors, namely Visa and Mastercard. So if I want to buy your goods, I transfer digital euros from my account in the European central bank to your account.

I'd switch to digital euro from visa&master card at the first opportunity.
>but you don't use euro

Yeah as opposed to American banks and literally every data-scraping algorithm selling that data to every vendor who will pay, knowing where you buy your anime-shaped sex dolls.

with how we're acting the world desperately needs a more stable one now but i doubt it will be the euro. it will be whatever stable country steps up and makes their money suitable for that.

Hijacking your thread to clear the situation:
The dollar is the reserve currency because it is stable, it is stable because america has a major military industrial complex that at the same time is backed by a massive tech and Oil reserve (and ofc natural resources)
Oil is meanigful because it is what is used to fight wars.
And war threat is used for cohersion which enables market invasion

Europe not only has no MIC
It is actively losing its colonies (or neocolonies, but even pulling back outof overseas territories) in africa as seen with france in mali.

So the Euro wont just not become a reserve currency (why would a business even want a highly surveyed currency moving through state owned payment processors lmao.
These people launders money)
It will keep declining as europe is overshadowed in global relevance by indo-china
Which is where the major economic boom of our era is happening, where the manpower is, and by extent the most capacited people to further develop tech.
Plus they have natural resources.

Cheers

We should be moving away from digital currency, not towards it. It's not worth the risk of a societal collapse.

They will not only control 400 millions of Europeans but they could decide to stop allowing people from certain cities or certain ID from buying too much meat or pumping too much diesel.

They will controll every European and can decide for them what they can do. TOTALITARIAN DICTATORSHIP of the worst kind, much worst than in China or Cuba.

What's the point of "digital euro" anyway? Aren't like 95% of euros that are just numbers on the bank account screen and banks moving euro via digital payments already "digital euros"?

given recent drama of Visa/Mastercard blackmailing and stopping payments for companies/people they view as "morally harmful" like 18+ steam games, I would say it's a good thing. But then you realize it's the EU, and they will probably block and censor even more stuff in the name of "safety".
