So basically what if gods are a set of symbols and primordial ideas that exist occult in nature and once they manage to hijack a reproductive aparathus or system such as a mind, or a commodity, they begin replicating themselves until they incarnate.

Surely the gods would be a set of symbols, maybe the seven day of the weeks represent to which god each number corresponds

Your mind cam be infected with an idea, and this idea cam begin spreading itself by altering your behaviour in a way you become a vessel for it.
So the gods can violate your mind

So for example think about a cult or ideas like antinatalism
Surely they are noxious and will cause their "host" to become sterile and die.
But if they manage to brainwash them into repeating things that will help the idea spread, the idea will keep spreadig and creating more zombies to further replicate.

Is like a "mind virus"

Or think about a song, a song creates the conditions to convince people, or maybe even other mechanisms to make machines, reproduce it
