Our border enforcement is more about projecting power and securing the region for the Americans and fuck all about preventing illegal entry. It's largely a massive amount of tax payer money getting funnelled out of the country and into the coffers of foreign war mongers.
The only statistically significant amount of people staying illegally in the country do so via flying to the country and overstaying their visa status. The ocean is enough of a deterrent for all but the most desperate refugees, in which case we are obliged to taken them in anyway under international law.
Aren't you glad the 2024 budget set out to spend 1.3 billion dollars more on weapons and craft to "protect" people from entering the country, somewhere in far north woop woop or crocodile's arsecrack in the NT?
It's all a massive wealth transfer scheme, like pretty much all major government spending over the past handful of decades.
