Depends on the era. Been here since 2006, if you brought back the old culture it would be near insufferable meme spam and everyone competing to create a new viral meme. 2010s was basically an edgier version of Reddit, mostly fake stories, occasional gore, proudly degenerate/contrarian, and repetitive memes masquerading as culture. Then stormfags started raiding this website and it quickly became political then there was a coup on /v/ around 2014 when gamergate started. They accused moot of being an sjw because he was banning stormfags and he just left the website and got a job at google. After this the website changed beyond recognition, the memes stopped and people started having real discussions/sharing news, the political narrative consolidated, and you'd gradually see people stop talking about anime and instead talk about countries instead. Right now people use more k-pop/gravure reaction images than they do anime, should tell you a lot how this website has changed. What I find most interesting is that perceptions of Japan went from being a haven against conservative censorship where you could draw shota and watch gay porn without fundamentalists censoring you to somehow being a conservative bastion that suppresses homosexuality. In some cases it's literally reverse from what it used to be.
