It was less a mobilization and more like the respective parties kidnapped random young men from villages and made them fight for their side. I met a Syrian refugee woman who told me her husband, her two brothers, and her two male cousins all disappeared and were made to fight for either ISIS or Assad and she never heard from them since, that was in 2017 and she said it had been 5 years since she heard from one of them last.

Don't even start trying to understand that conflict.
