The reason you naturally care about your family more than global strangers is the same reason you naturally care about your ethnicity and your race more than global strangers. Because they're more genetically similar to you than global strangers. Your ethnicity/race is just your extended family.
The reason humans evolved to become favour and care about their race/ethnicity or family members more than outsiders is because it is a successful evolutionary strategy to give more help to those who are more genetically similar to you.

Rational, successful, mentally and spiritually healthy evolutionary strategy means caring about your family first, then your ethnicity, then your race, then your species, then your order, etc.

Individualism is a very weak and defenceless evolutionary strategy.
Imagine there are two populations with the same distribution of competence. Population A is individualistic and colourblind, population B is ethnocentric and has in-group preference for other members of population B.
If A and B are competing for jobs and resources in the same society then over time members of population B will come to occupy most of the positions of power because even though the two populations have the same average competence, whenever A and B are both applying for a job or promotion, the A members on the hiring comittee will give fair ratings to both A applicants and B applicants, while the B members on the hiring comittee will give fair ratings to A applicants but better-than-fair ratings to B applicants. So over time B applicants will occupy more and more senior, powerful positions and be able to influence society to benefit the B group.

So being individualist and extending colourblind , fair treatment to all populations when other populations are ethnocentric and don't return the favour is just letting yourself getting taken advantage of like a chump.
As it happens, white people are the group who are the most colourblind and individualist, and we can see that they are indeed being taken advantage of.
