Mammographic density is not about breast size.
It refers to how much of the breast tissue is made up of glandular and fibrous (dense) tissue compared to fatty (non-dense) tissue when seen on a mammogram.
High density = more glandular/fibrous tissue, less fat.
Low density = more fat, less glandular/fibrous tissue.
Two women can have the same breast size, but one might have mostly fatty tissue (appears dark on a mammogram = low density) and the other mostly glandular/fibrous tissue (appears white = high density).
So the study’s finding in Ashkenazi Jewish women is about tissue composition, not volume or cup size.
