It's not that the real Christianity hasn't been practiced in a thousand years, it's that it was suppressed by hooknosed dago pedophiles. The anabaptist tradition for example originates from before the reformation where the mountain dwelling Christians that werent totally enthralled by local city political hierarchies and swarthoid popery formed a remnant of independent thought and were able to practice adult baptism and other things long before the reformation. Protestantism is throwing off the yoke of Roman control while cuckoholics think that a chomo mobster in a yarmulke knows best.

for example the Baroque splendour of some Catholic churches, while nice to look at, is alien to me in a religious/spiritual way

Belief in God/Reiligiosity is pretty much a measure of how good or bad your life is. If you live in a developed country where all your needs are pretty much met and your life is pretty good, you will start losing interest in religion. Meanwhile if you live in an underdeveloped shit hole or if you live in constant fear of nuclear annihilation, belief in God becomes stronger. Poland became even more catholic than before in spite of decades of Soviet atheism. But now, Christianity seems to be taking a dip among younger poles because the country is a pretty nice place to live in the 21st century.

The churches that derive their authority from the Roman state are abominations that have more in common with the Pagan Roman imperial state than anything practiced by Jesus, the apostles and first Christians.
