how do we solve the zoomer problem? it's already bad that english slang zoomer talk words have infested every language, but at this rate english will truly become the only language spoken on the continent within a mere generation or two

98% of eurozoomers don't speak English well enough or care enough about the international community to actively communicate in English. My own brother speaks English pretty well but has never used a full English sentence since he was in middle school 15 years ago, for example. Even though we massively consume anglo media or use English terms on a daily basis.

What you see online is so far remote from the truth, brothers and sisters.

True, I'm learning and perfecting my parents dialects. Done with this fake commie speech that was made to communicate with Bosnians and Serbs.

Number of things are at play here, but the types of Euro-zoomers to have conversations amongst themselves in English are usually cringey nerdy people with a lack of self-awareness...

However, as a native English speaker who has grown up in Europe and always has had a preference for American entertainment, I'd say there is just hardly anything for a somewhat nerdier zoomer to consume in these countries.

A lot of European countries produce great art (great movies, great literature, art etc..) but I can't think of a single country except the UK (which again is an English speaking country) that produces sort of accessible slop that the youth can enjoy.

If you're a Croat and you learn English as a kid, you basically have a whole universe of entertainment and hobbies you can partake in that would be closed off to you. Video games, youtube, tiktok, movies that aren't specifically aired on tv with subtitles, books that might not be translated, tv shows and not to mention the internet in general.

Most people here who can only speak Croatian or really struggle with English are usually people with zero interests or hobbies that do nothing besides going outside to have a coffee with friends or whatever.

Consuming only foreign is something you grow out of. Mostly due to work and family life. When you get into the culture of commute radio and lunch room television. Kids shows that your children pick up from daycare that they want to watch at home. Game show slop that you watch along with the granparents after every friday night dinner etc. Consuming only foreign when you're getting up into your 30s is essentially a sure sign that your media consumption all comes from a desktop pc in a 1-2 room rental apartment that you live alone in

It was, but it is just one of multiple factors. It isn't the fault of the British, for example, if our authorities are increasingly using English and using Maltese only for propaganda. Nor is it the British's fault that our government's idea of an economy is endless consumption so they're piling thousands of foreigners here, with the consequence that in some cases even if you want to speak Maltese, you can't.

Worst part is when you are talking to youngsters your own age and when you use an older word your grandparents taught you they don't understand what you are saying, I speak albanian and when I come visit it takes me a good week to get the slang updates otherwise people tell me I sound like a old man.

I consume any foreign media in English or original language because the French dubbing scene has been fucking awful for nearly 20 years now.
Plus the original voices are always better.
Watching anything in french dub feels like listening to the most soulless person ever talking and badly lip synched too.
And it also improves my English too so there's literally only benefits to it, no brainer really
