I don’t know how to challenge myself. There are challenging things I want to do, but I don’t do them because I have a million other less challenging things at my fingertips that can bring me instant gratification (like playing video games, posting here, watching porn, etc). I don’t have the discipline required to resist these temptations, and I’m not sure if I can learn said discipline this late in my life. I remember my parents and teachers having this same conversation with me when I was a child, telling me I needed to ignore distractions and focus on studying even when I didn’t want to. I never listened to them and therefore never developed the necessary habits of a motivated person.

Don’t do this. I tried doing this in college and almost ended up killing myself because of how miserable and detached from myself I was. My entire life was full of people I didn’t like being around doing stuff I didn’t enjoy doing. The thoughts of “I’d rather be doing something else right now” never go away, you can’t convince your brain that you’re someone you’re not no matter how hard you try.
What you should do is explore other things to do. Just keep trying until you find something you actually enjoy. It might take some time, but it’s better to expand your horizons than stay shut in a tiny box never interacting with anyone.
