Whether immigrants should learn English isn't really a talking point here. You don't hear left wing types speaking against it, although they're also not focused on demanding it like right wingers do. I think British lefties are embarrassed about our reputation on the continent for visiting/moving to countries and expecting everyone else to accomodate us with English. If they say immigrants shouldn't need to learn English, it's hard to eyeroll about British expats needing to learn local languages.
