I don't think you understand what I mean anon :/
Quality of life is indeed an important of what's needed for life satisfaction, but that isn't all of it. For example in your country, a lot of strong benefits are given to people who have kids, yet native swedes outright refuse to have children. Having a collective or even individualistic of what one is absolutely required to make sense of the world. The past, the present and the future. Where one is going, why one is doing things, is a very important part of that. Here in France, like in many european nations, because of strong political and cultural movements, even if the context is clear and unsure, leading to a very fragmented society, there exists a desire to enact one (whatever it be depending from group to group or people to people). In Japan, that desire to create context is missing. Things are done... on auto-pilot. The method is mastered, but not the reason. You should really read some of Ellul's work, he speaks about that a lot. When context is missing, the natural desire should be to create it. And this is missing in Japan. Accepting a lack of sense in the modern world. My post had nothing to do with GDP or quality of life. Thinking happiness or at least fulfillment is just about economic metrics is too reductive.
