>some people do actually think that don't them
Yes. Over here we have people who legitimately believe that drinking camel piss and honey will cure any disease because the Prophet said so.
>What drives them to believe that? It is based on religious beliefs?
They believe it because the surrounding culture believes it, kind of like how in the West people used to think that diseases like the plague were caused by an imbalance of the 4 humors without any proof for it, or how people used to think cocaine was okay to put in cough drops, or even how most people nowadays believe in evolution and climate change (not denying I'm just using an example) without ever having read a single paper on either subject or knowing the slightest thing about them, and yet they still believe in it.
Basically most people's beliefs are a result of them absorbing the beliefs of the culture they live in -- the vast majority don't really stop and think why they believe in the things they do or really even question their beliefs.
> If so why it seems mingled with seemingly pseudo science talk or is there actual evidence I am not aware of?
Because that gives their claims legitimacy in the modern world. They know it's scientifically bullshit but by using fancy terms they make it seem legit to the masses.
