You’re probably not going to like the answer, but it’s capitalism’s fault.
It’s extremely profitable for landlords to rent to H1B1 workers right now. These jeets are willing to live with 10 other guys crammed into a 3 bedroom house. Renting this house normally might be $3k-$4k a month, but if the landlord can rent each jeet a bed for $500 (i.e. half of what the cheapest studio apartment in the area would cost) then that landlord can make $1000 more than if he were to rent to a family. This makes family housing scarcer and drives up the rent for actual Texan residents.
Right now this happening all over every major city in Texas. We’ve become the new H1B1 capital of the US, on par with Silicon Valley. It’s literally everywhere, from downtown apartments to people in the suburbs converting their garages into apartment units to entire houses in new developments being bought and rented like this one. You’ve probably seen the news stories about Indian developers building entirely new housing developments for the sole purpose of selling and renting them to other Indians. Texas is quickly becoming the Canada of the US.
