Housing should be a basic human right like breathing air, not treated like a stock where number must always go up. Why should the number go up and wood gets worse with time

The opposite. They're more expensive than they've ever been, but there's countless home inspectors on social media exposing developers cutting corners and many times intimidating inspectors to pass shitty sub osr builds.
