One thing that thirdies really cannot comprehend is how lonely and bleak it is for firsties. The life experience of a mentally ill vagrant in Asia, having no family, no political power, no religion, no culture, no support network, is the reality of 99% of firsties who aren't extremely rich and connected. It's so common to just stop talking to your parents, let other people get harmed, have no group to belong to, no one to speak to, no one that represents your interests locally and nationally. In Asia families pool money together to start businesses, in the West siblings fight with each other. Everywhere else it's normal to take pride in your language and traditions, in the West it's frowned upon to acknowledge that you are part of a certain human group. In the developing world, there is no doubt that there is a future, that it's possible for things to get better. In the developed world, there is no hope, it's all downhill, absolutely no one can have a vision 5 years down the line. If I was born in India or Sudan my life would be full of potential, impossible to go downwards, in France my prospects are watching things get worse and pay more taxes.
