Our town used to talk about Chinese immigrants but in the last 10 years the Indian population really exploded 5x. Not an exaggeration.

India's reputation now is about what China's reputation was 20-30 years ago. People have now started to talk about China not as if it's a developing country (which is what they themselves claim to be), but the same way that people were talking about Japan in the 1980s. Would be wild to see India become the next China after they end up stagnating and start being regarded as a 'developed' economy, Liveleak and mass Chinese migrations have already been memoryholed, so I don't see why the same wouldn't happen again. Chinese used to be the largest immigrant Asian population in the US in the 1990s.

It's a set dichotomy that seems to fall along political lines here where libs love China and think it's epic sauce for their density, insane public transport infrastructure, and futuristic skylines, or they say it's a disgusting fucking shithole 2 weeks from collapse with dilapidated dogshit buildings and dog-eating, degenerate freaks populating the streets
I definitely don't think people glaze it in the way people glazed 80's Japan though. I remember my dad telling me about visiting Japan in the 80's and talking about salarymen waving bundle of cash to call a cab, how it was insanely futuristic for the time, how people only wanted Japanese cars, how Hawaii was going to only be populated by Japanese summer homes, how people actually feared it was going to overtake the US any day. I don't think it's that similar. There's more fear and skepticism of China since they're an adversary and also a lot of doubt in the feasibility of their sustained growth, especially with the demographic info we have now relative to Japan in the 80's.
