Not him, but I sort of agree with you and sort of don't. China's got a massive rural population that they can just keep urbanizing, some hundreds of millions. Even if their actual national population isn't growing, they can just keep moving the unproductive poors into the productive cities for quite awhile longer until their demographic crisis really catches up with them. Im not sure what they'll do after that though lol

I had an indian explain to me why they can't do proper modernization efforts in India. It's because they have a gigantic population of uneducated poors while simultaniously being an actual democracy. Like in Egypt or Vietnam or whatever they have no problems installing a city wide plumbing networks in favelas. Non-meme answer, but there have been proper modernization efforts over the past 10 years. Basic infrastructure, electricity, plumbing, running water, railway electrification, literacy rates growing, etc. If you compare the metro systems in Delhi to New York (low bar admittedly) Delhi is far nicer and actually clean unironically. It's just that modernization has just recently begun. It won't become apparent until India's GDP hits at least 5 trillion.
