Parents here are like your best friend, you do them favors once in a while but you dont HAVE to give them jack shit. Thirdies on the other hand kiss their parent's ass to the point where parents decide who they get to marry and where they get to live.

Because our parents generation was piss poor, and the only chance most of them have to have nice things is through us. The collective guilt has my generation buying their parents vacations to europe, pick up trucks, retirement houses in rural mexico, etc. Maybe catholicism has something to do with that tho

Because even relatively wealthy thirdie countries have abysmal access to services and social mobility compared to the western average, so parents from there quite literally invest much more into their offspring than western parents.

true story: my parents were supposed to find a wife for me but they said they will now allow me to marry unless my older sibling got married. my older sibling never did and rejected all the marriage proposals that he got and now I am 31. i just stood there like a good obedient mommas boy waiting for my turn but that never happened and i ran out of time and grew much older

I look back at my life and laugh how strange everything is. Sometimes men do need to be assertive and not let their thirdie parents control their entire life
