FINLAND FACTS
In Finland, all the way to 1930s, people had to eat bark bread to survive.

Basically, when harvest was not good, you fell a tree, a pine tree, and removed the inner bark of it that was eatable and had nutrition. You smashed it and tried to power it the best you could and you mixed it with flour.

This is how our forefather survived in the Nordic climate, when rye, barley etc. harvest wasnt good enough.

So Finns ate trees to survive! Aint this freaking crazy?

I think mud cookies are just something you eat to fill you up and you shit everything out? With the inner bark, while its not healthy long term (I think it has a lot of heavy metals), it is food

Our forest reindeer and moose were nearly extinct back then, american white-tailed deer were introduced as alternative game animals in 1930-1940. Mushrooms and berries were probably scavenged too.
