>Japan to close all "Japanese centers" in Russia

>This was announced by the Secretary General of the Cabinet of Ministers, Yoshimasa Hayashi. In total, six branches of the Japanese Center will be closed, which are located in Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, St. Petersburg, Vladivostok, Khabarovsk and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.
>These institutions supported market economy reforms, as well as Japanese language and business skills training.
>Hayashi noted that the decision was made due to the changing situation inside Russia and Russian-Japanese relations.

Under the San Francisco treaty Japan agreed to give up all territories it gained in XX century which includes Sakhalin.
Kurils only remain disputed because they were given to Japan in 1875 under the Saint-Petersburg land exchange treaty and because the Soviet delegates left the San-Francisco conference in 1952 as a protest because the PRC delegates were not invited.
I understand why the Kuril dispute still exists but don't bring up the fucking "Karafuto" please

the amount of all spending from tourists is like a drop in the ocean of the economy. its virtually irrelevant. It only helps the business owners themselves but the only businesses that actually need and would benefit from the inbound spending are places tourists never set foot

Actually it wasn't that often that I had to find a specific building. And if then usually someone came to pick me up at the station.. like from university, etc. Even all the visa work.. there was always someone taking me to the consular office or such.

Other than that, when partying I just got off Shibuya, looking for a bar? then it's shinjuku/ikebukuro, etc. No gmaps, no tabelog for food places.. so you had to try your luck randomly.

You could still smell the money from the bubble. Great cars, lots of constructions. You still see that today but concentrated on a few spots like Roppongi or so. But back then you found the nicest cars even in some random neighbourhoods. Shibuya was much more shady, with youth gangs hanging around, sometimes making trouble. There was barely any tourism. Much less chain restaurants/stores and more unique things. Nightlife was kinda nice because it used to be 50/50 men and woman.. I went to Womb recently and it was 80% male tourists. Also much more focused on dancing back then, not just hanging at the bar and drinking longdrinks.

I also think drugs were much more common in the 90s. I remember that I could smell weed a lot. Always got offered cocaine in clubs. And you could legally buy magic mushrooms.

I think Tokyo is much more commercialized nowadays. They seem to make good money of Chinese mass tourism.
Anonymous Japan No.214722569

Shibuya is swarmed with tourists to the point where I just don't go at all. even waiting at a crosswalk you hear mostly chinese. If you go to a club the surroundings are a chinese guy trying to flirt with a korean girl and they both are struggling with english and cant understand eachother.

Tbf even if you speak the language people are still distant. If I went to France and spoke French most people wouldn't care, it's a cute novelty to them. People bond over labor/interests not making the correct sounds with your mouth. I paint and I have more in common with European colleagues that can barely speak English than my next door neighbor.
