Why is media in german non existent?
i have been trying to learn german for 1.5 years now and finding proper TV/BOOKS/Movies is hard. It's also very rare to come across german speaker on internet.

I pretty much force myself to engage in some kind of german enviroment at this point. i change video games i play, or movies i watch, to german. I think if i picked french or spanish i would've had less hard time in this special aspect.

ah. yeah, i think danish is a good guess.
danes understand norwegian and swedish, and most of the ones i've met have been decent in german as well.
the swedes cant understand danes, and some swedes cant understand norwegian.
and i guess we'd be just below the danes. maybe.

i'm not to familiar with the others, but i don't think they have as much inate understanding of the family

norsk is much closer to danish.
northern swedish is closer to norsk than the rest of it, for some reason.

but no, it's not THAT different. we can, for the most part understand the swedes perfectly
Anonymous Germany No.214737068 [Report]

Not really. German speakers can inherently understand maybe 50% of written dutch (more if you also know english), very little of other written germanic languages and basically nothing if it is spoken.

There are a gorillion german yt channels.
>TV
ARD and ZDF each have their own mediathek online, it's completely free (maybe need a german vpn to access, dunno)
>BOOKS
Lots of german books exist and all relevant books from other countries are translated into german
>Movies
The german film industry is pretty big and produces tons of (mostly shitty) movies, many of them can be found in the ARD or ZDF mediathek for free. German audiences mostly watch dubbed foreign movies, so pretty much every single hollywood movie in existance has been dubbed professionally.

gotta know where. that's hard if you don't know the language.
you can always get a VPN for a german IP address, then visit the state media. they have some entertaining low-propaganda tv shows/documentaries. these days, everything is subtitled.

>swedes cant understand danes
Swedes can easily read Danish texts in my experience, but they and even some Norwegians struggle with Danish pronunciation
I speak Danish to Swedes but I always make sure to speak slow and have clear articulation

It's easy to throw you guys off when we start high speed mumbling where words muddle together in one continuous flow

In Scandinavia Danish is quite the outlier, esp in Copenhagen people tend to speak fast
Jutland speaks slow but not any more articulate lel, some Jysk dialects are even more muddled than Rigsdansk
Except East Jutland with all the cities (Everything east Coast between Kolding-Aarhus-Aalborg), here people just speak Rigsdansk with a jysk accent and few select local words like træls, tovlig...

a little, very little
when i listen closely you can MAYBE understand a few simple words and understand the sentence from there. (sometimes when i read some "nordic" stuff i can understand it and see the similarity)
Anonymous Sweden No.214748736 [Report] >>214748756
Swedish is grammatically more similar to English in some ways. The vocabulary just hides the similarity. German sentence structure is as unintuitive to us as it does to English speakers.
