I've been to both Slovenia and Croatia, walked the roads, more so in Croatia, and sat on the streets of both countries.
Slovenia is more western, kinda sucks up to Italy and euro-standards, well, the western you go, doesn't help some of their biggest cities are in the west but as you can figgure it makes sense; Otherwise Slovenia is ...the closest you will find to untouched nature in southern europe, it's wild. Literally. Wolves, bears are a-plenty and sightings are not rare to say the least and you wouldn't even consider them sightings.
That's the country, a bit of a otherworld sea just landing on the conflict of europe. People are.. normal, nice, nothing about it.
Croatia is more... eastern as in, there's a lot of polarized people, you can find ...independent focused people,, not looking for a check, a lot more uncivilized and a lot of self-made nice people, as in, because they want to not because they have to.
Walking the roads of Croatia it was often I got honked on, people being rude or oppinionated but I also got free rides and a geniune conversation, invited into the home for a couple of hours just to sit talk, .. just have a chat. Then went on to drink in a disco in a village ~ of sorts, larger one maybe, throught the night, danced to some ~ cultural music all wrong apparently percieved as mocking but somehow, did not get beat up about it.. I mean.. again people are people.
It's a smaller country Croatia and has a complex about it, but people are strong and have an independent spirit, met some kids at the train-tracks hoping to get out of the small time city, hopes and dreams - it's a nice place, I wouldn't drag it through the dirt.. Also the capital was self-made, very nice,, just the usual complex of, we aren't good enough, aren't like west etc. That isn't to downplay countries in the west.. just the..fear between people I guess.
